Three Partners Volunteer on Diocese of Orange Audit Committees
Diocese of Orange–Gary Belz, Dave Doran and Mike Ludin, three of White Nelson Diehl Evans LLP’s partners, serve in volunteer audit committee positions for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange. Dave and Mike are specifically involved in committees associated with the new Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove.
Gary was invited to join the Diocese of Orange’s audit committee in 2009. “I volunteered to serve because I thought it would be a great opportunity to support the church in Orange County,” remarked Gary. “And, with all the schools, parishes, cemeteries and non-profits that make up the Diocese of Orange, it has proved to be an interesting experience!” The audit committee meets several times per year and oversees the audit process for the diocese. This includes meeting with the diocese’s independent auditors to review and discuss various accounting issues.
Mike is a member of the board of directors and serves as audit chairman for the Christ Cathedral Facilities Corporation. Dave serves on the audit committee for the Christ Cathedral Corporation. Although Christ Cathedral and the facilities corporation are separate entities within the Diocese, they operate under the auspices of Kevin Vann, Bishop of Orange.
All three partners are excited about their volunteer roles. Regarding Christ Cathedral, Dave remarked, “the cathedral is an iconic structure in Orange County, and when the diocese acquired the property, I knew I wanted to be involved.”
Formerly known as the Crystal Cathedral and built under the leadership of Robert Schuller of the Reformed Church in America, Christ Cathedral is currently undergoing renovation to adapt if for Catholic worship. It is slated to re-open in 2016.
