Position Overview

The tax senior will be responsible for performing the preparation of tax related engagements in a lead role. The tax senior becomes involved in more advanced projects while continuing to develop client knowledge and skills in order to take on more leadership responsibilities. The tax senior will also begin to understand how the role relates to the tax department objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Understands tax codes and regulations as well as the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct of the AICPA, and pronouncements of the FASB
  • Proficient with tax and firm standard software and able to research complex transactions
  • Prepares more complex individual, corporate, and partnership income tax returns, and property tax returns in addition to tax projections and provisions
  • Responds to tax notices and completes initial drafts of letters as required
  • Makes adjusting entries and completes a trial balance in order to prepare a tax return
  • Understands depreciation and reads and understands reports
  • Executes problem identification and problem solving
  • Performs services within budgeted time using technical, time management, and organizational skills
  • Understands and applies the skill of detailed review of self-prepared work papers
  • Demonstrates good technical and analytical skills
  • Meets rising standards of quality control
  • Effectively communicates with the client to receive information necessary to complete the engagement with minimum disruption to the client
  • Communicates the engagement status with the engagement lead in a timely and ongoing basis and takes responsibility of due dates and turnaround times
  • Prepares work products to meet the standards established by White Nelson Diehl Evans LLP, the AICPA and other governing bodies

Required Education and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum accounting units as required for eligibility to obtain CPA license
  • CPA certificate or actively pursuing CPA certificate
  • 2 – 4 years of public accounting experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills preferred
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good research skills and the ability to understand, comprehend and articulate tax and accounting concepts
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Emerging leadership, project management, and team building skills
  • Familiarity with Lacerte and ProSystems Tax, a plus
