photo1White Nelson Diehl Evans LLP was proud to host its 2nd annual Summer Leadership Program at WNDE’s Irvine office and at the nearby Second Harvest Food Bank July 27-28.  The program gave 20 Southern California sophomore, junior and senior college students, who are interested in exploring a career in public accounting, the opportunity to meet professional staff and learn about the type of work in which our interns and staff engage.

The purpose of this annual event, said Sandra Hague, WNDE’s Talent Acquisition and Brand Manager, “is to educate participants on what it would be like to work here, understand the basics of our tax and audit departments and for the firm to early identify and recruit prospective interns. It also gives students an up close and personal view of our firm culture – which is an invaluable experience.” Students who participated in the program had to go through a selective interview process, which included submitting a resume, cover letter and transcripts.

Participants expressed their gratitude to WNDE for hosting the program.  Some specific comments by participants included: “My favorite part of the program was enjoying the time we spent with all of the professionals.  “I really appreciated how all the partners and staff were approachable and open to answering our questions.  It was great to hear their story and perspectives.”  And, “I appreciated the involvement of the employees of all levels.  They took time out of their schedules to be with the participants and I found that remarkable.”

photo3According to the participant survey:

  • 90% strongly agreed that the program was applicable to their careers and education.
  • 100% said they would recommend this program to their peers.
  • 90% strongly agreed that they benefited from participating.
  • 85% strongly agreed that they had the opportunity to network and meet WNDE staff.

Sandra added, “I’m confident this program will continue to evolve and meet the needs of our recruitment goals in addition to helping create a solid brand on college campuses.”
