Position Purpose

The Tax Senior is responsible for performing the preparation of tax related engagements in a lead role. You will also begin to understand how your role relates to the tax department objectives. The Tax Senior becomes involved in more advanced projects while continuing to develop client knowledge and skills that prepare you to take upon the role of a leader.

Position Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Tax Senior are:

  • Leadership
    • Learn and upholds the firm values, policies and procedures
    • Maintains sound working relationships with administrative associates, peers, and management to cultivate teamwork

    • Adheres to the firm’s billing and time keeping processes

    • Directs employee related matters through appropriate channels in a timely manner for resolution
    • Participates in the performance evaluation process

    • Continues to develop client relationships
    • May begin to represent the firm at key community events, firm functions and other activities
  • Technical Skills and Client Service
    • Understands tax codes and regulations as well as the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct of the AICPA, and pronouncements of the FASB
    • Is proficient with tax and firm standard software
    • Begins to research complex transactions
    • Prepares more complexindividual, corporate, and partnership income tax returns, and property tax returns
    • Prepares tax projections and provisions
    • Responds to tax notices andcompletes initial drafts of letters as required
    • Makes adjusting entries and completes a trial balance in order to prepare a tax return
    • Understands depreciation and reads and understands reports
    • Executes problem identification and problem solving
    • Performs services within budgeted time using technical, time management, and organizational skills
    • Understands and appliesthe skill of detailed review of self prepared work papers
    • Demonstrates good technical and analytical skills
    • Meets rising standards of quality control
    • Effectively communicates with the client to receive information necessary to complete the engagement with minimum disruption to the client
    • Communicates the engagement status with the engagement lead in a timely and ongoing basis and takes responsibility of due dates and turnaround times
    • Performs other accounting and tax duties as assigned
    • Participates in firm administrative projects as assigned
    • Attends Continuing Professional Education training as scheduled
  • Risk Management
    • Prepares work products to meet the standards established by White Nelson Diehl Evans., the AICPA and other governing bodies.
  • Information Technology and Resource Requirements
    • Learns and utilizes software and technology applications adopted by the firm
  • Expectations
    • Complies with all firm policies, procedures, and position responsibilities listed above
    • Represents self and firm in a professional manner in conduct and appearance
    • Achieves minimum total hours and billable hours as established by Department Director
    • Attains CPA license
Education and Skills

The skills and education required for this position are:

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum accounting units as required for eligibility to obtain CPA license
  • CPA certificate or actively pursuing CPA certificate
  • Minimum 2+ years of public accounting experience
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good research skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Good understanding, comprehension, and ability to articulate tax and accounting concepts
  • Emerging leadership, project management, and team building skills
