Position Purpose

The Audit Senior is responsible for performing the preparation of compilation, review and audit engagements in a lead role. You will also begin to understand how your role relates to the audit department objectives. The Audit Senior becomes involved in more advanced projects while continuing to develop client knowledge and skills that prepare you to take upon the role of a leader.

Position Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Audit Senior are:

  • Leadership
    • Learn and upholds the firm values, policies and procedures
    • Maintains sound working relationships with administrative associates, peers, and management to cultivate teamwork

    • Adheres to the firm’s billing and time keeping processes

    • Directs employee related matters through appropriate channels in a timely manner for resolution
    • Participates in the performance evaluation process
    • Participates in and is available for the training of staff

    • May begin to represent the firm at key community events, firm functions and other activities
  • Technical Skills and Client Service
    • Understands the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct of the AICPA, pronouncements of the FASB, and when assigned to governmental engagements, the GAO and GASB
    • Is proficient with audit and firm standard software
    • Completes compilation and review engagements from beginning to end
    • Participates and documents planning function of an audit
    • Prepares full financial statements including disclosures
    • Begins to research complex transactions and generate correspondence
    • Executes problem identification and problem solving
    • Functions as primary staff during audit field work
    • Performs services within budgeted time using technical, time management, and organizational skills
    • Understands and applies the skill ofdetailed review of self prepared work papers
    • Demonstrates good technical and analytical skills
    • Meets rising standard of quality control
    • Is attentive to his/her own budgets for an assignment, raising red flags to the engagement lead when a project grows out of scope or is moving toward a budgetary or timing overage
    • Effectively communicates with the client to receive information necessary to complete the engagement
    • Communicates the engagement status with the engagement lead in a timely and ongoing basis and takes responsibility of due dates and turnaround times
    • Performs other accounting, auditing, and administrative duties as assigned
    • Attends Continuing Professional Education training as scheduled
  • Risk Management
    • Prepares work products to meet the standards established by White Nelson Diehl Evans, the AICPA and other governing bodies.
  • Information Technology and Resource Requirements
    • Learns and utilizes software and technology applications adopted by the firm
  • Expectations
    • Complies with all firm policies, procedures, and position responsibilities listed above
    • Represents self and firm in a professional manner in conduct and appearance
    • Achieves minimum total hours and billable hours as established by Department Director
    • Attains CPA license
Education and Skills

The skills and education required for this position are:

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum accounting units as required for eligibility to obtain CPA license
  • CPA Certificate or actively pursuing CPA certificate
  • Minimum 2+ years of public accounting experience
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good research skills and ability to multi-task
  • Good understanding, comprehension, and ability to articulate auditing and accounting concepts
  • Emerging leadership, project management, and team building skills
