New Program Introduces WNDE Staff to Accounting Students
White Nelson Diehl Evans LLP hosted its inaugural Summer Leadership Program held at WNDE’s Irvine office and the nearby Second Harvest Food Bank July 21-22. The event gave 20 Southern California sophomore and junior college students, who are interested in careers in public accounting, the opportunity to meet WNDE’s professional staff and learn about the type of work in which WNDE interns and staff engage. The purpose of the new event, said Sandra Hague, WNDE’s Talent Acquisition and Brand Manager, is to “educate participants on what it would be like to be a part of the WNDE family and for the firm to recruit and identify prospective interns.”
Students who participated in the program had to go through an interview process, which included submitting a resume and a cover letter. Its goal was to give participants the opportunity to learn how to succeed in public accounting and make professional contacts with the WNDE staff.
Participants expressed their gratitude to WNDE for hosting the program. According to a participant survey:
- 100% strongly agreed that the program was applicable to their careers and education.
- 95% said they would recommend this program to their peers.
- 89% strongly agreed that they benefited from participating.
- 68% strongly agreed that they had the opportunity to network and meet WNDE staff.
Some specific comments by participants included: “I learned a lot about the firm and what the firm stands for through the kindhearted professionals I had the chance to meet.” “I had a lot of questions going in and felt very informed on my way out.” “The program has definitely increased my interest in the firm. After attending this event, I am even more excited for my future in public accounting.” “Every encounter with each WNDE professional made me more excited for the upcoming recruitment process this upcoming fall for internships.” “I want to personally thank you and the staff at White Nelson Diehl Evans for putting together an awesome Summer Leadership Program. It was to my benefit to gain insight about what it is like to be a part of the White Nelson Diehl Evans family. It was great to hear and see the bond among the employees. As I briefly mentioned to you, the presence of partners’ participation in the program was uncharacteristic of an SLP.”
Sandra said, “I know over time, this program will be successful in identifying top talent earlier and will further propel the WNDE brand on college campuses.”
